Film Screening

The first day Of the college began With the film screening of "The Freedom Writers Dairy',' an inspiring uplifting movie that pulls no punches This program was conducted by the resource person, Ms. Junisha Khongwir.

Students and teachers attending the film screening along with their teachers.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
The Freedom Writers Diary: How a Teacher and 150 Teens Used Writing to Change Themselves and the World Around Them is a non-fiction 1999 book written by The Freedom Writers, a group of students from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California, and their teacher Erin Gruwell.

QUOTES FROM THE MOVIE:

  • "l did what I had to do because it was the right thing to do"
  • "Education is such a noble profession, it is a wonderful way to serve"
  • "We are all ordinary people. But even a secretary, housewife, or teenager can within their own ways turn on a small light in a dark room"

"No matter what race we are, what ethnic background, sexual orientation, or what views we may have, we are all human".

WORDS FROM THE RESOURCE PERSON:

  • Qualities of a teacher- Passionate, Dedicated, Friendly, Broad-minded, Understanding, Good Listener, Practical and so on.
  • We should be factual and dare to speak the truth no matter how hard it gets
  • As teachers, we have to blend in and be one with the students
  • We have to update ourselves with the different inventions of this technology world
  • Be alert and be prepared so we can face any challenges inside the classroom

PROS OF THE SESSION ANP THE MOVIE:

  • We've learnt that a teacher can break the barriers that exist among the students. For example, they can develop the feeling of oneness in spite of them belonging to different background, race and culture.
  • The teacher can mould the personality of an individual and can even shape their future to become responsible citizens.

A teacher can create a feeling of love and respect among the students and how they can work together to bring about an atmosphere of peace and harmony in the classroom as well as outside.

In conclusion, we can say that the film screening program was a good start of the academic year for all our Student-teachers of SMCTE. In "The Freedom Writers Diary", Gruwell interspersed her narrative text throughout a collection of actual entries from her students' own diaries, with powerful results, so also as teachers to be we can intersperse our real life experiences and all the lessons learnt and those that we will be learning in the days to come in this institute in our field for the best outcome.
